Rising 1st Grade Logic of English Assignments

Rising 1st-grade students who did not attend Starboard's Kindergarten program will be required to use the LOE (Logic of English) free resources to learn and review what Starboard students master in kindergarten.  Kindergarten students will have completed LOE Foundations A and B, and 1st-grade students will complete LOE Foundations C and D in the Logic of English program.  We want your student to feel confident from day 1 in the 1st-grade class, so it will be very important for you to work through learning these sounds and phonograms over the summer.

Phonogram chart - https://phonograms.logicofenglish.com/chart   Use this reference to familiarize yourself with the sounds of each.  The downloadable document below lists the phonograms that MUST be taught this summer.  Have fun with it!  Parents will learn right alongside their students and should memorize them, too. 

Spelling Analysis Videos - Please have your student complete the Spelling Analysis videos in Foundations A and B – it may be a good idea to do one or two per night as each only takes a couple of minutes.  Your student will need a paper/pencil to complete these.

Apple App to download  “Phonics With Phonograms by Logic of English” – please download this to help your child master the phonogram sounds.  Within the app’s settings, you can make a custom list with only the phonograms needed to learn (use email attachment to help build a list).   If you don’t have an Apple device, you can purchase LOE phonogram cards from their website here (or you can create your own) - https://store.logicofenglish.com/collections/core-materials/products/basic-phonogram-flash-cards

Phonogram chart for rising 1st graders (click download below) – the phonograms highlighted in yellow are the ones your student will need to master over the summer.  Please print this out and work through each sound together daily.  Mastery looks like this:  You will show the phonogram card or write the phonogram, and your student will need to say all of the sounds that the phonogram makes (many make more than 1 sound).  

Additionally, you can use LOE references when your student is decoding words while reading.
